Dog Tag Receives Grant Award from Disabled Veterans National Foundation

WASHINGTON, DC - 25 July 2024 - Dog Tag is honored to announce it has received a grant from the Disabled Veterans National Foundation (DVNF) for $9000, which will fund The Dog Tag Entrepreneurial 5-month Fellowship Program, which equips veterans, military spouses, and caregivers with the tools and education to build resilience, find renewed purpose, and forge community beyond the military. Dog Tag provides a bridge from military service to the civilian world and acts as a catalyst for finding direction and moving forward. This generous contribution will provide necessary accommodations for fellows with service-connected disabilities to complete a business certificate and engage in community building activities that help them find purpose.

Meghan Ogilvie, Chief Executive Officer of Dog Tag Inc. said, “Dog Tag’s impact does not stop with the military community we serve. Inspired by what we do, our bakery customers, partners, donors, and volunteers champion our mission beyond the walls of the Bakery into their own lives, their communities, and across the country. Our partners are also participants in our mission and crucial to providing the opportunity to find purpose to military families.”

Joseph VanFonda (USMC Sgt.Maj. Ret.), CEO of the Disabled Veterans National Foundation said, “We are proud to support Dog Tag’s Entrepreneurial Fellowship Program, which provides invaluable skills and experiences to veterans, military spouses, and caregivers. This grant will help ensure that participants, especially those with service-connected disabilities, have the necessary resources to complete their education and engage fully in the program. At DVNF, we believe in empowering veterans to find new purpose and build resilience as they transition to civilian life. Dog Tag’s mission aligns perfectly with our commitment to supporting those who have served our country.”

About the Disabled Veterans National Foundation:

Disabled Veterans National Foundation exists to provide critically needed support to disabled and at-risk veterans who leave the military wounded—physically or psychologically—after defending our safety and our freedom.

DVNF achieves this mission by:

  • Offering direct financial support to veteran organizations that address the unique needs of veterans, and whose missions align with that of DVNF.
  • Providing supplemental assistance to homeless and low-income veterans through the Health & Comfort program and various empowerment resources.
  • Providing an online resource database that allows veterans to navigate the complex process of seeking benefits that they are entitled to as a result of their military service, as well as additional resources they need.
  • Serving as a thought leader on critical policy issues within the veteran community and educating the public accordingly.

About Dog Tag Inc:

Dog Tag Fellows earn a business certificate from Georgetown University (DC program) or Loyola University Chicago (Chicago program); bring their coursework to life by learning the ins and outs of running a successful business in the bakery; build community with each other; and enhance their wellbeing by committing time to introspection, storytelling, and personal growth.

Our fellows see and value themselves differently after they graduate and continue on their own journeys with greater confidence, resilience, and direction—an achievement described by many as nothing short of life-changing.
