Portia Gerald

Portia is from Charlotte, North Carolina. She received some college at the University of Maryland Global Campus while in the United States Navy. Her military responsibilities consisted of some of the following: telecommunications, satellite command, help desk, hardware repairs and software updates for ship and shore clients. Upon medically retiring, she desired to give back to her community using the skillset she had in technology. As a Wounded Warrior from the Wounded Warrior Project, she was put in contact with a company called Melwood. She started out there as an IT Instructor until she was promoted to the Program Manager.

What brought her to Dog Tag is her determination to become a business owner, to build generational wealth, and to show girls and women like her nothing’s out of reach when you work hard. Once she heard out about Dog Tag, she did research on not only Dog Tag itself, but the owners and what their goals were for fellows and alumni of the program. She hopes to gain business knowledge, resources she will need to be a successful entrepreneur and camaraderie from her peers. Her favorite baked good is oatmeal raisin cookies with chocolate chips.
