Navy Veteran

Sabrina Sims

Sabrina “Bre” Sims was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, until she was about 16 years old, when her family moved to Richmond, Virginia. Before graduating high school in 2004, she enlisted in the United States Navy. After graduation, she served a brief career as a Boatswain's Mate before transitioning to a career in law enforcement.

Over a decade later, Bre wanted to make a change and return to school. She completed her first degree in Social Science from Reynolds Community College in 2016. After taking some time off, she graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forensic Biology, along with double minors in Biology and Chemistry.

Bre is thankful for her naval career, which prepared her for her current role as a scientist. She joined the military inspired by her grandfather and uncles, who served in Vietnam. She was, and still is, the only woman to serve from both sides of her family.

Before completing her fellowship with the Warrior-Scholar Project, Bre had the opportunity to take business courses at Yale University. This experience led her to believe that starting her own business would be the change she needed to make a significant impact. She is immensely grateful to Dog Tag Bakery for helping her turn her business venture into reality.

One thing Bre is known for is her love of red velvet cake. Although she is not a fan of milk or dark chocolate, she loves eating a slice of the dyed red stuff on her birthday every year.
