Wakeena Dickens is a native of Washington, DC and grew up in the Prince George’s County, MD area. She earned her Doctor of Management in Organizational Leadership specializing in Information Systems and Technology from the University of Phoenix in 2011, a Master’s in Health Services Administration from Central Michigan University in 2003, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in 1999, where she also obtained her appointment as an active-duty army officer into the Transportation Corps. Her military responsibilities included managing large-scale operations in logistics, information systems and technology, personnel, training, and managing multi-million-dollar assets via all modes of transportation—including rail, air, ground, and water.
Dr. Dickens co-owns with her husband a catering business, and as of recently, a New Orleans eatery. Her plan is to use the business concepts learned in Dog Tag to fully develop and structure her business plan in a way that grows and scales her business into a multi-restaurant chain. After a decision to step away from corporate America in January 2022, Dr. Dickens learned about the Dog Tag Fellowship Program on the small business administration (SBA) website in a search to find business education programs to develop and hone her business skills. In her search, she pursued and focused on business programs that would grow her and her husband’s catering business. She is extremely grateful at this point of her business to matriculate into a well-rounded business fellowship program that supports the veteran community, entrepreneurial success, and business mentorship.
Her favorite baked goods are pineapple upside-down cake AND triple lemon frosted-filled cake.
